Coronary imaging

Prof Ruparelia commonly utilised intravascular coronary imaging to optimise coronary stent implantation. This is performed via a small catheter advanced over the wire that is used to treat the coronary artery. Advantages of using imaging include ensuring all of the diseased segments of an artery are treated, to guide sizing of stents and finally to optimise stent expansion to deliver the best short and long-term results.

There are two modalities that are available currently: intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Prof Ruparelia has expertise in both and shall utilise the modality that is thought best for your individual case.
